Distance-Aware Relay Selection in an Energy-Efficient Discovery Protocol for 5G D2D Communication

Massive machine-type communications (mMTC) is one of the main services delivered by fifth Generation (5G) mobile network. The traditional cellular architecture where all devices connect to base station not energy efficient. For this reason, use device-to-device (D2D) considered reduce consumption mMTC devices. idea nearby user equipment (UE) as a relay and establish with it D2D communication. However, selection process also consumes energy, can be significant compared consumed during data transmission phase. In paper, we propose distributed energy-efficient relaying mechanism for applications. This favors UEs low path loss device. Through mathematical analysis simulations, show that our allows reduction total (up 75% direct transmission) when they have an unfavorable link budget. Moreover, achieves almost constant large range UE densities distances between device station.
